A state license will be required if you provide
any type of product or services that are regulated by the state or
businesses that have to meet certain codes of standard. These are
licenses are mainly persons of certain professions, such as lawyers,
doctors, realtors, hairdressers and others. Businesses that are
required to maintain a certain code of standard, such as restaurants
and bars are also required to have a state license.
A sale tax license or permit is required by almost all
states. This type of license allow you to charge sales tax to your
customers when they make purchases. By visiting your local
Commissioner of Revenue you will be able to find out if you are
required to have a sale tax license for your business.
A federal license is required only if your business is
regulated by the government. Some examples of government regulated
businesses would be businesses that sell regulated products such as
firearm or alcohol. Interstate Trucking businesses that require ICC
authority. In obtaining a federal license you should be sure to
obtain professional advices.
